Simply the best ingredients.
Better than all the rest. We studied what's safe, effective, and the best for you, your body, and the biosphere.
So fresh, so clean.
To us, "clean" means mindfully creating products that are safe and non-toxic, with ingredients that are made with your health and the planet in mind.
The In Crowd
We looked at studies, research papers, and respected ingredient databases to vet each ingredient incorporated into our products.
Acacia Senegal Gum Extract
Extracted from the Acacia Senegal tree, this natural ingredient is an herb that has soothing properties, and is primarily used as a thickening agent.
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract
Stemming from the Camellia Sinensis plant (also known as the tea plant), this ingredient aids in aroma and flavor.
Citric acid
The same natural acid found in lemons, limes, and oranges, citric acid helps reduce tartar and bacteria in the mouth.
Inulin
Naturally occurring in the roots of several plants (like chicory), inulin is a prebiotic that helps support the good bacteria in the mouth to promote a balanced oral microbiome. It may also promote digestive health.
Lactobacillus acidophilus
This strain of good bacteria, found naturally in the mouth, is a probiotic that has been shown to provide significant recovery from periodontal diseases and gingivitis. It also supports gut health and can boost the immune system.
*Only found in mints with probiotics
Lactobacillus paracasei
A strain of good bacteria found in the mouth, this probiotic helps inhibit growth and reduce the presence of bad bacteria. In addition, it can help digestive function, immunity, and skin health.
*Only found in mints with probiotics
Lactobacillus reuteri
This strain of good bacteria has been shown to reduce both gingivitis and dental plaque, and helps decrease the presence of bad bacteria. It may also help improve gut health.
*Only found in mints with probiotics
Magnesium stearate
A combination of magnesium, an essential mineral with a long list of benefits, and stearic acid, a fat found in pantry favorites like cocoa and olive oil. Considered a “flow agent,” this natural additive helps improve consistency and makes it easier to create tablets.
Menthol
Derived from the oils found in mint plants, menthol helps to balance the taste of other ingredients, like baking soda, and adds a fresh, natural flavor and clean mouth feeling.
Microcrystalline Cellulose
This is the pulp from fibrous plants, used in our tablets because it helps create tablets that are hard but dissolve quickly.
Natural Mint Flavor
The ingredient from which we get our name! As many know, mint is a naturally occurring herb that provides a sweet flavor and lingering cool sensation. In our products, the natural mint flavors stem from mentha piperita (peppermint) and mentha arvensis (wild mint).
Silica
An abrasive that helps to clean and whiten teeth. Silica helps to gently scrub the stains off the surface of your teeth, revealing their natural color.
Sodium bicarbonate
Good old-fashioned baking soda. In toothpaste, this helps to clean teeth by penetrating and helping to remove the plaque layer.
Sodium Fluoride
We know this one gets a lot of press, so a bit more here. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in water, soil, plants, and more. It gets a ton of support from dentists and oral health professionals given its power in both strengthening and rebuilding tooth enamel and preventing cavities and tooth decay. For that reason, we think it’s an important addition to your oral health routine. But we understand if it’s not for you!
*Only found in toothpaste tablets with fluoride
Sodium lauroyl glutamate
Originally derived from coconut oil, this is used for foaming and even distribution of other ingredients in the mouth during brushing.
Sorbitol
This naturally occurring sugar alcohol works as a natural sweetener, and studies have shown it may reduce cavity risk compared to other sweeteners.
Stevioside (stevia)
Stevia is a natural sweetener that helps provide great taste.
Xantham gum
Formed during the fermentation of vegetable matter, this ingredient serves a dual role. It’s a thickening agent, meaning it helps keep our toothpaste uniformly thick, and an emulsifier, meaning it binds our ingredients together.
Xylitol
Xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol found in many fruits, vegetables, trees, and plants. It is a natural sweetener that also increases the creation of saliva, helping keep bacteria from sticking to teeth and staving off tooth decay.
Yeast
This ingredient’s formal name is saccharomyces cerevisiae, but is commonly known as baker’s yeast. It is included in our mouthwash tablets for moisture.
"I love Mintly. It actually makes me feel like I'm getting my teeth even cleaner (and fresh breath lasted just the right amount of time)."
- Trisha B.
The No List
We like to keep things positive, but we had to say “no” to certain ingredients that studies show can harm us or the planet.
Aspartame
An artificial sweetener, aspartame can cause side effects like headaches, dizziness, and nausea, and can also disrupt appetite control.
Carrageenan
Carrageenan is a natural ingredient (derived from red seaweed) common in toothpastes to create a thick consistency, but scientific findings show that it can cause intestinal issues like inflammation and colon ulcerations.
Ethanol
Otherwise known as ethyl alcohol or alcohol, this ingredient is added to many mouthwashes as a preservative and to allow essential oils to mix with a water base, but some evidence suggests it can increase the risk of developing oral cancer.
Glycerin
Glycerin is a natural ingredient typically produced from GMO vegetable oils that attracts plaque and leaves a coating on the teeth, inhibiting the remineralization process.
Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is used in mouthwash as it may help kill germs, but it can also cause allergic reactions as well as redness and irritation inside the mouth.
Sodium benzoate
This ingredient is a chemical preservative used to extend shelf life, but preliminary studies suggest it can cause inflammation and lead to ADHD and obesity.
Sodium lauryl sulfate
Popular on lists to avoid, SLS is a chemical compound that can help create foam, but it can also cause inflammation, dry mouth, gum irritation, canker sores, and ulcers.
Sodium saccharin
Also known simply as saccharin, this ingredient is an artificial sweetener used for flavor which can cause allergic reactions and side effects like headaches, breathing difficulties, and diarrhea.
Sucralose
Another artificial sweetener, sucralose can increase the risk for developing Diabetes, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Crohn’s disease, and is associated with weight gain.
Triclosan
A chemical added to consumer products for its antibacterial properties, triclosan has been linked to hormone disruption, and the FDA has banned it in soap and body wash.
